"Hello!" calls out this reindeer.

"Hi there!" waves the snowman.

"Welcome!" declares this angel with open arms.

"Ho Ho Ho!" booms Santa.

"It sure is fun hanging around this tree!" declares another snowman.

Indeed, the ornaments, one and all, enjoy watching the antics of the children in our class each day!

Mr. Hamer was away playing guitar at a funeral at St. Anthony's Church this morning, so there are no pics of the students in this posting.

Rather, we'll take a "close-up" view of the Modern Nativity stories the students dictated to Mr. Hamer.

Remember, you can click on the picture to enlarge it.

You can then click outside the picture to return to the default look of the page.

The children certainly had fun dreaming up ideas for their modern version of the story.

It was cool to see who the three wise people would be.

It was fun to learn which gifts they brought to the Christ Child.

Some students even had the wise folk follow an object just as the three wise me followed the star.

It was also interesting to see what the Baby Child would do with the gifts.

Creative writing is so much fun.

Especially when you integrate it around a wonderful story.

"Thank You!" to a special friend for this wonderful little gift!

When Mr. Hamer arrived school in the afternoon, we once again practised with the bells.
It is challenging but fun!
Have a wonderful evening everybody and we hope to see you Thursday morning at 9:45 in the Learning Commons!

Day 68

As the title of the song says, "Let it Snow" and it did today.

But the white stuff works nicely to soothe the landscape as these ornaments certainly state.

With a number of ornaments already made, there were still many more left to do.

Thanks to our wonderful "chief elf" of a volunteer, many more were created and there were many happy faces as a result!  Thanks so much to our dear friend!

The workshop area is, indeed, a busy place!

Time to rehearse the bells in the Learning Commons.

And for our friends in the other combined class, Grade Two/Three, to rehearse their song.

Then our friends in the two Grade Two classes went through the paces with their play.

Nice costumes!

We assisted as choir members.

Today we reviewed the story that was read by our guest teacher yesterday.
The children learned that Christmas time shouldn't be so "hustle and bustle" that we forget the true meaning of the season.

Then it was time to share this lovely story of a crippled lamb who always felt left out from the group but who played a significant role on Christmas morning.  Have your child inform you about this heartwarming story.

Or, feel free to check out the link below to read along with the story on-line.
Copy and paste the link into your address line at the top of your page.

Time to check the Creation board again.

Where the students display their work.

Before it gets published into a class book.

Again, our modern Nativity stories are fun to read.

To see where the Baby Jesus was born.

And to learn how some visitors found their way to the special moment.

Also, to learn who these three special visitors were.

And...which gifts they brought.

The children certainly coloured the page with care.

Reading each other's efforts is very enjoyable.

We're near the end of the day.

And...the children are already dressed in their snowpants ready to head home.

But they are allowed to use their chrome book to assist them with their drawing.

Or simply enjoying a fun game.

To cap off a very busy and exhausting day!

Total concentration.

A smile for the camera.

Make that two!

How about three smiles!

Four!

Five!

Teamwork!

Our pile of ornaments is growing.

The children are excited to bring them home on the last day of school before Christmas Break.

Have yourselves a wonderful evening!
Mr. Hamer OCT

Day 69

We are excited to host our families tomorrow for our Christmas Concert and Play beginning at 9:45 AM.

This morning two elves greeted teachers as they entered the school building with a warm treat.

A little box appeared on Mr. Hamer's desk.

As presented by yet another elf.

Three books for the class to read!

Today we read Small Saul, a wonderful story about how a little person can make a big difference and be appreciated.

Thank you to this little elf.

This little person created a cool modern Nativity story that found Baby Jesus being born in Mr. Hamer's classroom.  Three wise people, an English teacher, a French teacher and the principal were guided to the school by the red and white flag on the pole in front of the school.  They brought Jesus three gifts, a ruler, some pencils and a chrome book.

This tiny elf tells us that a large yellow "M" guided Mary and Joseph to a McDonalds restaurant.  Three wise people, the manager, the server and the janitor gave the baby gifts.  He received fries, Chicken McNuggets and a Big Mac.  Later Baby Jesus asked for a Happy Meal!

This young lady tells us Baby Jesus was born in the President's mansion in her home country.  Three wise people, the president, a little girl (from the picture above) and her teacher.  The Baby received a bowl of fruit, a bunch of stuffies and lots of baby food.

Baby Jesus was born in Italy, the country this little boy's mom is from.  With no rooms available the Pope invited Mary and Joseph to stay in his home in the Vatican.  Three wise people, a priest, Ronaldo (the soccer player) and a pizza delivery man brought gifts.  They gave Jesus a Bible, a soccer ball and a year's supply of pizza!

In this lad's accounting of the event, Baby Jesus was born at SkyZone.  The manager, the owner and the mayor of Ottawa presented the Baby Jesus with gifts.  Jesus was given a year's free pass to Skyzone, the key to the city and an ornament from Mr. Hamer's classroom Christmas tree.  Check in tomorrow to hear some more stories!

Our classroom decorations made out of Christmas cards sure look great.

It takes twenty cards to make the ornament.

It is a geodesic sphere.

Very colourful.

Lots of fun!

We'll see many of you tomorrow morning at the Christmas Play and Concert!
Mr. Hamer and Friends!

Day 70

Today was the day of the bells.

With a bit of rehearsing yesterday...

...it was on with the show today!
Thanks to our wonderful volunteer elf, we have some great pics to share with you from our Christmas Pageant.

Our photographer has a discerning eye, snapping this image of one of Canada's famous rock stars!  (Wishful thinking!)  Hehehe!

Our friends in the other Grade Two classes re-enacted the story of the Nativity.

Here's a future rock star in the making!

I had as much fun watching the parents having fun during the play!

Some fine costuming.

Lots of rehearsals required to put the show together and the young students came through!

Today was also one of our "Spirit Days" with the theme being "Hat Day".

A bunch of elves.

All around the room.

With some fun-looking hats atop their heads!

Indoor recess meant some fun play.

With these two elves creating a masterpiece at the easel.

A young lad in a great hockey uniform playing with his spinner.

Some mechanical toys.

Prove to keep even the most creative fellow aptly entertained.

Looks like a cool creation.

Chrome books get a workout during our indoor recess.

While this young lad has no hat.

His dog does!

Blocks come in handy.

When combined with other toys.

In Block Two, the kindergarten children visited all of the classes throughout the school and entertained their older peers with a mini-concert of three songs.

They were dressed warmly as the outdoor temps were "super sub-zero!"

Lots of lovely tunes.

Then it was over to the class across the hall.

We began working on our Nutcracker.

The children made them in a variety of colour combinations.

Some proud friends.

With great big smiles.

Our centurion now owns a Nutcracker.

As does this elf.

Hmmm...looks like the class is getting yet another Christmas tree.

Santa's elves hard at play.

With smiles that make anyone's day!

It is our wish that the bells of Christmas bring joy to your family throughout this wonderful season of waiting!  Mr. Hamer OCT

Day 71

Yabba Dabba Doo!  It's Friday!
Mr. Hamer has a busy weekend this weekend...playing guitar at church Saturday at 5:00 PM then playing with his band at a gig at the Royal Oak on Hunt Club Road at Uplands Drive at 8:00 PM the same night!  Then, a family gathering on Sunday.  Yessirree, weekends can be as busy as the weekdays!

It's so nice to see the freshly fallen snow on the playground.  This gives me the opportunity to remind parents to have all outdoor clothing items labelled.  Thanks so much for doing so!

A little girl in the class baked these little treats.  She should enter one of those "high stakes" baking shows on television...and no, Mr. Hamer didn't eat the candy balls off the stocking to the left...another little elf did!

Today, all the children attended mass.  Here is a photograph of the choir at the end of mass after all other classes left.  That's Mrs. Blackmore to the front left beside me and Mr. Papineau in the background with his guitar.  It's nice for me to have a second guitarist to play along with at church and for concerts!

Speaking of church.  This is the 60th Anniversary Yearbook. Note the two images taken along St. Bernard Street where the church and school are located.  Back in 1957 when the church had just been constructed St. Bernard Street was just a farmer's laneway!  (Remember, you can enlarge the photograph simply by clicking on it.  To return to the default look, click outside the image.)

Yes, we have a second Christmas tree in the class.

Each child has a named ornament.

In a variety of colours.

They enjoyed placing the balls on the tree.
Love this little one's snowflake heart shirt.

Pinks and purples prove to be very popular colours for the ornaments.

It's coming along.

With a few more additions.

Fun poses for pics with great smiles.

What a colourful door we will have.

This young lad had to leave a bit early so Mr. Hamer cut his ornament out.

At the end of the day at the end of the week found the children enjoying chromebook activities.

If they dressed for home quickly and quietly, they could head back to their computer.

And have fun until the dismissal bell rings.

A few more shots from Thursday.

With indoor recesses the norm in sub -25 temps, lots of toys were played with in a creative manner.

The whiteboard easel saw plenty of action.

With seasonal drawings.

HO! HO! HO!

Some more nutcrackers appeared.

Created by Santa's elves themselves!

A close-up view.

Hat Day brought many Santa hats out of the drawers.

Even an Ottawa Senator.

Why not a baseball cap as well for this nutcracker creator!

Lovely example!

Colour match with the hat and sweater!

Creative play.

Ah yes...the age old wooden rods.

Never get boring!

Yet another nutcracker!

I trust all families will enjoy a fun-filled and relaxing weekend with only a few more sleeps until Christmas Holidays!  Yabba dabba doo!  Mr. Hamer OCT
