Day 143

Yes, we will see a few folks with pies in the face this week!

More geometry fun in class today.

Lots of patterns to follow.

Or...

...you can make your own!

Today, the students were in conference with Mr. Hamer.

Where they told him what to type on his laptop.

For their various poems.

Then the poems were printed off in the big school.

Then adorned with stickers.

Tons of creativity.

The "I Love" poems.

The "If I Were" poems.

The "Biopoems".

The "Dear Something" poems.
I'll take this time on the last day of April to share the month in review below.
Have a great evening all!
Mr. Hamer OCT

April in Review

Indeed, April was a month of differing weather.
We are dressed warmly before heading out at recess time.
We eat our nutritious snacks to give us sustenance.

Our school hallways were adorned with pipelines.

As part of our Lenten Fundraiser.

For OK Clean Water and for our Syrian Refugee family.

The scientist visited our Grade One students in Mrs. Gillam's class.

With parent helpers.

A nice display in the hallway.

Beautiful artwork is completed when other activities are done first.

Having fun with Monty the monkey.

We published numerous class books in April.
This one reviews the month of March.

One on Simple Machines.

Another on "My Super Hero".

On a Sunday afternoon we met in church.

For a very special occasion.

Our First Communion.

Our desk placement in different rows.

A proud author.

Some math work.

Junior students came to encourage us to bring in plastic bags.

"Sister Act".

Visiting Ms. Avilla.

A colourful classroom door.

The MakerSpace in the Learning Commons.

Jersey Day!

Parachute fun!

Colourful kids!

They love it!

We love Mother Mary.

Jesus too!

We learned some more Bible stories.

Which taught us so many lessons.

We also learned about the great man, Moses.

Can you believe it...another snow day.

Just check out this crazy weather.

So...we combined the classes as we always do.

Time to read some poetry.

Earth Day.

A nice book cover.

Working with out junior buddy class.

Sisters helping each other out with the plastic bag collection.

It was fun learning about animal tracks.

Time to work on our fish.

Lots of cool colours.

In rehearsal for our Breakfast on the Shore songs.

Warm-up time in gym class.

Yet another class book.

Indoor recess fun.

Fun with utility balls.

One side of our fishies!

And...the other side!

Wow!  Check out over 3000 plastic bags!

Yes, we always review our recycling options.

We say goodbye to a valued staff member.

Mr. Hamer and Mrs. Blackmore love when we gather with the school choir.

We meet our junior buddy class once again.

This time we work on probability.

Time for breakfast!

And...quite the gathering it was!

Another classroom banner.

Drawing practise.

Using the chrome books.

Our very special book.

Posing for a picture of us signing and signing the national anthem.

Our dance workshop.

With Ms. Hartmann.

We like building fortresses in the back corner of the class during free time!

Writing Poetry sure is fun!

Indeed, the month of April went by really fast!
Have a great evening everyone!
Mr. Hamer OCT

Day 144

We filled our folders with work we had completed and submitted.

Here's a page this little girl likes.

This lad remembered his Olympic maze.

Nice navigating.

Our young friend here enjoys art and math.

Lovely work.

She likes social studies.

Especially learning about Ottawa.

Today we conferenced once more with Mr. Hamer at his laptop.
These are our Conversation poems with mom and dad.
Example:

Mother
I wish I had a million dollars
Son
You'd better start saving now
Mother
I wish we could go to the movies
Son
How about over the weekend?
Mother
Let's play outside
That, yes
Right away!

Here are our "What Am I Like?" poems.
Example:

Am I like a cloud or a river?
I am like a river for I move quickly.
Am I like the sun or the moon?
I am like the sun for I am so bright
Am I like a cloud or a tree?
I am like a cloud for I am flexible

Some of our second version of the "If I Were" poems.
Example:

If I were a swing
You would visit me when you come to the park
If I were a sofa
You would snuggle up on me
If I were the sun
I would shine wherever you go

Some more back pics from a few days ago.

Other examples of our "Earth Day" pages for the class book.

Remember that we brainstormed various sentences to complete the paragraph.
That is why some children might have the same sentence out of the few that make up the paragraph.

Lovely effort everyone.

"Here's my page!"

"I love my work!"

"Green and blue remind me of the earth."

"I like my background colour!"

Reading the rough copy of his biopoem.

The children enjoy standing in front of their classmates.
Have a wonderful evening everyone.
I dread going in tomorrow as someone will be "pie-ing" me in the face!  Yikes
Mr. Hamer OCT

Day 145

The placards are made and ready to go.

While the students smile for the camera.

On a sunny morning.

Yes, our children will be the ones holding up the fund-raiser amount later in the day in the gym in front of the entire student body.

But first, it's time to get the blue gloves on.

For a bit of a grounds clean-up.

Outside the front of the school.
Mr. Hamer planted that big tree when it was only three feet tall about 20 years ago in memory of a little student from our DE class known as the zone.  The health of our little friends in the zone is fragile at best and they are certainly cared for and loved by all staff and students.

We're ready.

With our gloves.

And our bags.

Can't wait to get started.

Some raking in evidence.

Two rakes help make quick work of the leaves hanging around in front of the school.

Some eager helpers.

Around the front of the school.

Mrs. Johnson lends a hand.

Later we find ourselves in the Learning Commons.
Sorry for the quality of the image.

Ms. Avila reviews the rules.

The students ask her about her new hair...extensions!

Smile for the camera.

We love our books.

Look!  The recess playground has finally been swept!

Recess fun.

Love those blue basketball poles.

Conferencing with Mr. Hamer at his laptop with poetry ideas flowing!

Love the artwork.

In Block Three we find ourselves in the gym.

Why is Mr. Chaplinsky dressed the way he is?
Hmmm...maybe we'll find out in a short while.

We hoist up our total Lenten fund-raising amount one digit at a time.

Mrs. Louise Garby (former St. Bernard principal - on the left) and Carmel Horan are honoured to receive a cheque in the amount of $1508.00 on behalf of OK Clean Water Project.  That is half of the fund-raised total.

Ken (A member of the Knights of Columbus for the church) and his wife, Lylleth, are proud to receive a cheque for an equal amount on behalf of St. Bernard Catholic Church.  The funds will go toward helping out our new Syrian refugee family.

Our beautiful Syrian family was in attendance as well.  What a thrill that was for the students to meet them!

One of our lads gets to pie Mr. Chaplinsky!

Good aim!

Yum yum!

Yes, laughter all around!

Tomorrow you will see the ladies getting their turn.

These lads from Mrs. Blackmore's class have the honours here.
Check in tomorrow to see more of the action with some more of our students involved!
Have a peaceful evening!  Mr. Hamer OCT

Day 146

Still catching up from Thursday and Friday.  This posting will showcase Thursday's activities and some pics from earlier in the week.  Check in tomorrow for Friday's events.
The image above shows some of our "Someday" Poems.
Someday I would like to meet...
Someday I would like to visit...
Someday I would like to become...
Someday I wish to...
You will be able to check all of the poetry at our "Education Week Open House" Tuesday morning between 8:15 - 8:45 AM

Our "Roses are Red" poems are fun!
The children wrote three versions using the standard format and then reversing the first two lines and finally changing up the colours.  Too much fun!

Our "I Meant To..." poems were fun to write as well.  The students had to come up with various excuses to "get out" of doing a specific chore they really don't want to do!

More pics from our clean-up.

Lots of hands make light work.

Filling up the bags.

In the sunshine.

Helpers from other classes as well.

It's nice not to have to wear heavy jackets anymore.

There certainly were a lot of leaves.

I hope she helps out around the property at home as well.

Hold that bag open!

In the shade.

Around the front wall of the school.

Down in the ditch.

A coordinated effort.

Having a discussion.

Hi Mrs. Johnson!

Peekaboo!

Lots of smiles and laughter.

Back in the learning commons with Ms. Avilla.

Settled in.

An eager reader.

Make that two.

Plus another one!

Can I read that book, too!

Hard to choose from so many!

Some play time to be had.

We love Ms. Avilla.

Comfy seating.

Hanging around.

Back in class conferencing for poetry.

This pic has already been shown the other day.

But I'm not sure if we shared the "close-up" shot.

We left off in the gymnasium with more teachers to be pied!

Some smart ladies put on some interesting eye wear!

Here goes!

For the gusto!

Our VP and P.

Looking prepared, but a tad nervous.

Hehehe!

We love it!
Unfortunately (or fortunately) we didn't get a photograph of Mr. Hamer getting the same treatment!  Hahaha!

Time for Mr. Papineau to get a shave...or just a haircut.

We must thank Angela Reitano, a school parent and professional hair dresser for volunteering to come in to assist with the task.

Some eager participants can't wait to get their hands on the clippers!
You'll have to check in tomorrow to see the finished result!
We will also catch up with Friday's activities at that time.

Remember, this coming week is Education Week!
Looking forward to seeing many of you at the Open House Tuesday morning at 8:15
All the best, Mr. Hamer OCT
