Week Nine - Haunting Times

Day 38

Indeed, this is the week of "haunts" each and every day!

What happened to the colourful?  Spooky things happening here I guess!
Thanks to Ms. Julia for the black and white image from our kindergarten visit last week.

Strange occurrances!

Our class has been overrun!

With some sort of mammal.

That flies!

Each one has delivered a message.

With sage advice.

Bats on the ceiling.

Bats everywhere!

Puppets too!

Our classmate is leading calendar on this day.

Lots of great questions can be formed near the end of a month as there are so many date numbers to select from to create an interesting problem to solve.

Eager hands go up.

With a rainy morning we went on our inclement weather schedule.

Which means the students remain indoors.

Lots of fun creations.

This lad is quite content with some blocks.

While his friend plays on the computer in the background.

A young girl spelled the word "cat" using the rods.  (Turn your head sideways!)

A quick glance in French class.

Avec Madame.

Then we enjoy a visit from the older grade children.

Who teach us about Halloween safety.

Lots of great questions and answers.

Our kinder friends visit too!

Madame asks a safety question.

Later in the afternoon we enjoyed some fun Halloween activities on the Smartboard.

Each student was given the opportunity to place three or four puzzle pieces together.

Lots of fun!

It's coming together!

With teamwork, we've solved the puzzle.

Let's try another one.

"I'll just drag this piece over this way."

Hand off the baton to another peer.

Then another.

Almost there!

Well done, gang!

If this doesn't scare you, nothing will!  Hehehe!
Our spelling words below are Halloween related.
Take note of how subsequent words build from previous ones.

Have a great evening everyone.
You better start battening down the hatches for the onslaught tomorrow night!

                             Day 39

Tonight is the "Night of Frights!"
I'll hurry with this posting.  Many pics were taken today.  I'll share some now and others tomorrow!

Lots of orange and black creatures.

All eager to...go trick or treating!

The little ones visited today.

From kindergarten.

Cool costumes.

Lots of colour.

Some tentative little folk.

Teachers are dressed up too!

Look at Mr. Hamer everyone!

Love the looks!

Our gals and guys were dressed in some all forms of black and orange.

Fashionable!

Give me candy too!

Big smiles.

Lovely combinations.

Brilliant oranges.

Along with the darkest of black.

Hi there, Bones!
All the class thanks this little one for the treats she shared.
(Lilly loves hers too!  Woof, woof!)

Tasty treat!

Serious looks.

A real live Jack O'Lantern!

Now, that's a scary costume!

In the zone.

A craft we made today!

And another!

Donated by this little lass!

We'll share more pictures from today tomorrow!
Have a haunting Halloween evening everyone!

                            Day 40

Progress reports went home with your child this evening.
Please sign the section of the report and return it in the same envelope in which it came home.
Also, please sign up for an interview time, whether it be before dinner or following dinner on Thursday, November 10th.  Should you prefer a telephone interview, please indicate on the form.

Today we had a number of little visitors taking up space on the special chair.

All eager carpet participants!

Bernie and Buster held the fort in Mr. Hamer's carpet chair.  It would appear that Buster has an outdoor supervision duty on this day.

Some more little witch "craft".

A proud little person.

Another rainy day recess period where we got to stay indoors.

And play with friends.

In a creative manner.

Too much fun!

"My witch has an orange body!"

Some more recess play.

More creations.

Mme offered up some Halloween colouring in French class.

Great looking work!

Our Halloween song comes to an end with the arrival of Halloween.
We also had fun with place value around the number 31.
Then the children asked about higher numbers, so we quickly jumped up to the Grade Three curriculum and tried our hands with a three-digit number!
Note how bare the calendar looks today!

Another witch.

Which witch is which?

A perfect pair!

"Here's how I dressed up to come to school on Halloween day."

"I'm wearing black."

"My pink looks orange!

"If you look hard enough you'll find at least one Halloween colour in my outfit!"

"I've got black!"

Cool Pokemon jack-o'lantern!

Peace sister.

A great hockey team!

More pics from our visit from the kinders.

They were thrilled to venture out to the portapack.

As were our children to see them!

Indeed our students were thrilled to see all the little tykes.

Loads of colour.

A witchy staff member!

Cool rainbow hair.

Batman on the prowl.

Lots of smiles.

They sure can make the rounds!

See ya later!

A friend from the Zone.

The "Kids in the Hall!"

Have a great evening everyone.
Please return the sign-up sheet for interviews so that I can organize your time to fit your needs best.

Day 41

Yesterday, November 1st, was All Saints' Day.

Today, the second of November, is All Souls' Day.

In math we all jumped a grade or two when this guest teacher showed the class how to add with regrouping.  That was fun!

Our class is very colourful.

With lots of playthings.

They can be used for learning or for just having plain old fun!

It's fun to see how certain children gravitate to certain toys.

They are a creative lot!

Looks cool to me!

Yes, it was indoor recess for most of the day.

The chrome books are popular.

As are the building blocks.

"I think I"ll draw someone."

"How about Mr. Hamer, the good-looking guy!"

In science we examined water once again.

To learn about how surface tension will allow us to fill a glass with more water than the glass can actually hold!

Keen observers.

Just checking to see if the surface is really above the rim of the glass.

It sure is!

Must be magic.

No sirree!

It's science!

Ooh!

Aah!

Ooh and Aah!

"If I tilt my head, it might look different!"

Check out our witch's brew.

We brainstormed the ideas as a class.

Then we selected from one of many choices.

For each ingredient for the brew.

To be made in the witch's pot.

Which we learned is called a cauldron.

With its fire a-blazing!

I'm not too sure I'd want to taste the brew.

How about you?

It might make your skin turn green.

Or yellow...like these folks.

On a little girl's jacket.

Teamwork allows you to accomplish so much!

We've now published 15 class books!
Have a great evening!

Day 42

Lots of comings and goings happening at school during the first few days of November.

While the weather has cooled somewhat, it's fun to dream about the sunny, warm days back in September with this "sister act" image of two great St. Bernard students!

During block one this morning, the Grade One students from our class attended a workshop with artist Tina LeMoine.  They created some fun crafts which you will see in a moment.  Other Grade One classes attended her workshop as well...they arrived a little later.

Back in our home room, the Grade Two students enjoyed an impromptu phys. ed. class.

Both the boys and girls played at carpet.

Later, there was some fun Friday "Playing Teacher" games going on.

While a couple of girls are pictured.

Teaching some new students to the school.

A little while later some of the boys got involved as well.

The Grade Ones made some really cool spinners.

With a different image on the two sides.
When you spin the disc using the handle the two pictures morph into one.

A fish...

...and a bowl.

A dog...

 ...with its master.

Some of the fun phonics themed books the children enjoy reading.  Ted's shed, Mouse moves house and Sam sheep can't sleep are three of the twelve in the set the students enjoy.

Here's a beautiful bulletin board display set up outside The Zone.

Each Friday in Block Four we gather with our buddy class from Grade 4.

Last week, I designed a lesson for the children.

This week it was Mr. Papineau's turn.

We quickly got the students on task.

Their assignment was to design a small, yet detailed colourful drawing on a small square of paper.

Their drawing had to pertain to this month's school theme of "Dignity of the Person."

The young ones enjoy when the older children visit our room.

A heart is a great example of how we should treat others.

Mr. Hamer with two buddies!

Children on task.

In a busy room.

All of our Grade Four friends brought their schoolbags with them...

...as we would be leaving directly from our class in the portapac to the buses and walking area when the 3:45 bell would ring.

Another shining example...

...of how friends should respect each other.

The smile tells it all!

A Grade Four friend showing a picture she drew.  One of the characters says "R U OK" - "Are You Okay?"  All of the small images will be brought together in a larger Mosiac which will be shared with you in the future.

Lots of teamwork.

It's getting near hometime.

Two of my former students took some time out to recognize their former teacher.  Thank you, girls!

Let's review the remaining Witch's Brew recipes.

Lots of crazy ingredients.

Were added to the cauldron.

A pinch of graveyard dust is what make this brew taste so yummy.

For this brew I believe it was the scorpion pincers that did the trick!

Not too sure if I care for the ear wax.
But along with all the other ingredients, it might just work!

One thing is for certain.

I don't think I'll be trying it any time soon!

Would you?

Another witch is made.

A last look at our science experiment.

Very inquisitive expressions.

"Isn't this cool?" the one lad says to the other.

"Sure is!"

"How is that done!"

"It's science!"

Oh yes...it's that time of the year again!
Get that extra hour of sleep and feel refreshed on Sunday!
Have a great weekend everybody!
