Day 120

Catching up again with the blog as Mr. Hamer was at a late musical rehearsal at the church next door to the school in preparation for Holy Week.

These images appear to be the same...

...however they are slightly different.

Due to the fact that we had the "Big Gulp" the previous week.

It sure was a "Big" gulp!

They were swallowing for quite some time!

Hearts showcasing friendship.

Rehearing a special dance.

The Easter Bunny visits as well.

Our homework this week helps the children gain a deeper appreciation of the parables Jesus shared.  Each parable was meant to showcase a special lesson.  Yes, the one sheep strayed from the flock.  The shepherd placed the other 99 safely in the paddock and searched out the lost one.  Eventually, the sheep was found.  Sometimes we are lost when we turn away from God.  Only when we say sorry and seek forgiveness are we once again found.  Such a beautiful lesson in life!

All the best, Mr. Hamer OCT

Day 121

Indeed, this is a very special week for all of us as we enter Holy Week.

Some of these pics are from yesterday and last week.

The children are concentrating with great devotion to the work at hand.

Sometimes we use Block Four as our time to head to our personal file folder and find work that we still need to complete.

This is why we see different students working on different assignments.

Lots of writing, for sure.

Some printing practice.

Our Grade Two Reconciliation booklets which will head home at year's end.

Magnificent M's displayed by a young pupil.

Who is proud to share her work.

We ensure we have factored in some play time as well.

Morty the Monkey seems a tad lazy on this day.

Laying around the classroom.

While other pupils work.

Thank you to a lovely young lady and her mom for these special gifts.

What a great craft using a tin can and various craft materials.  I love it!

Our Grade One pupils are excited to visit the Proulx Maple and Berry Farm tomorrow.

I'll be sure to snap a bunch of images to share with you tomorrow evening!
All the best, Mr. Hamer OCT

Day 122

We are keeping in mind the Holiness of this wonderful week as we approach Easter.

Our Grade One friends climbed aboard the school bus.

They were eager to get going.

Off to the farm we go!

Arrival time!

Gathering the groups.

Yup...all are here!

Time for a tractor ride.

This young feller hopped aboard very quickly!

Following by this crew.

And these fine folks.

Not to mention this pair!

Then everyone else.

Off we go!

Into the woods!

A mouse in a tree.

Hearken back to the olden days.

Indeed, days of yore!

Spooky!

Not as spooky.

Definitely not as spooky!  Hehehe!

Nick takes us on a tour.

Where we learn the history of tapping trees.

He's a great teacher.

Holding an old-fashioned spile.

Where the clear, liquid sap falls into a vessel below.

A metal spile with an aluminum bucket that will not rust.

Plastic spiles with rubber tubing in which the sap will be drawn through a vacuum system.

Multiple pipes.  Hey, it reminds me of our pipelines down the hallway of the school!

Nick explains that he only drills a short hole.

The hole is smaller than those from long ago...so the tree heals quicker.

Some eager learners.

We soon head into the shack where the sap is boiled.

Check in tomorrow where you will see that process.

Four happy teachers enjoying their classes in the great outdoors.
Many thanks to all of our parent volunteers for coming out!
Mr. Hamer OCT

Day 123

It is so nice to take time out of our busy lives to reflect on all that God has done for us.

In sending us His only Son who would sacrifice His life to save ours.
May your family enjoy a peaceful and soulful Easter weekend.

Some more pics from our visit to Proulx Maple and Berry Farm.
(Remember...you can enlarge the pictures by clicking on them.  You can return to the default look of the page by clicking outside the picture.)

Into the hotstove!

Or the boiler house.

Where all that clear Maple Syrup becomes transformed.

From the clear liquid it once was.

As seen in this bottle.

To the coloured Maple Syrup we love to eat.

Different colour tones due to the time in the six week period the syrup is "harvested".

Did you know that the ratio of the amount of sap required to make syrup is approximately 40:1.  Yes, 40 amounts of sap will turn out one amount of maple syrup.

Into the restaurant for lunch.

The chef hard at work.

Time for free coffee or tea for our wonderful parent volunteers.

Getting ready to eat.

Anticipation.

Sure looks good to me!

And Mrs. Bellamy too!

Beautiful maple syrup on top.

Happy faces.

Contented tummies.

Happy moms too!

Yummy, yummy...I've got syrup in my tummy!

Some maple treats as well.

Time to head outdoors for a sugary dessert.

On ice!

Sure looks tasty to me.

From liquid...

...to solid.

Mmmmm....good!

"I agree!"

Moms do too.

And...teachers too.

Even though the weather looked grey.

It was actually a perfect day.

To be outside.

"Not too cold at all," says Mrs. Gillam to Mrs. Bellamy.

A close examination.

Then it's into the tummies.

Happy campers!

Moms get some too!

Total contentedness.

Then some scooting around.

Then back onto the hay wagons.

For a ride back to the main area.
More pics to follow of our play time and feeding of the farm animals next week!

On Holy Thursday, all of the classes were given the opportunity to sign up to visit the Stations of the Cross in the Learning Commons.

It was a beautiful setting.

Classes learned about each station.

We examined a modern day example of how we can help one another.

The children took the lessons very seriously.

In groups of three or four classes at a time.

Later in the morning, all of the Grade Two students gathered for our continued preparation for First Communion.

We watched a great video on the sacrament.

That was very well laid out for children.

With some comedy thrown in.

The students found the lesson to be very rewarding.

It is a joy to gather our classes together like this.

Later still, in the afternoon, we worked on an art activity.

The children made their own version of the crucifixion cross.

Using Mr. Hamer's work as an example.
We'll showcase these next week.
He also spoke to the children of his visit to the Holy Land a few years ago.
Next week, Mr. Hamer will share some of his pictures from this trip with the children.

Thank you!

Indeed, enjoy this wondrous time.

Yes, we are so thankful for all God has given us.
