On Monday our Grade Two pupils who will be attending the Reconciliation service this coming Wednesday evening made their little lambs.

They represent God's flock of sheep.

We are all part of the flock.

As we learned in the story of The Lost Sheep, we sometimes stray from God's path.

Then we are like that lost sheep.

We also learned that we can be found.

If we say we are sorry.

And if we ask for forgiveness.

Yes, our God is a loving God who will always forgive.

We assembled once again to review our songs and prayers.

The lady on the right is a "Guest Teacher".  She was once a student in my Grade Four class many years ago.  It's so nice to see a student of mine now in the teaching profession!

We rehearsed what we have to say and do on Wednesday evening.

Then we watched a three to four minute LEGO video of The Good Samaritan.

Later, Mr. Hamer took his "travelling guitar" to choir.

Where Mr. Papineau and Mrs. Blackmore worked with the children alongside me.

We are preparing the choir for our Easter Mass in a few week's time.

Day 111

In class we read the story "Where's God" by Dr. Laura Schlessinger.

A little boy named Sammy is found on the upper loft of the family barn.

His grandfather asks him what he's looking for.

Sammy tells grandpa that he is looking for God because he wants to ask God to help out his mother who is in the hospital.

In this touching story, grandpa has a long talk with Sammy.  The young boy learns that, yes, God is everywhere.

Later in the day we catch up with the class in French avec Mme.

They are learning a French song while getting a workout at the same time.

Who knew French could be so much fun!

A young girl made this amazing artwork.

What a beautiful message!
What a beautiful craft!

Later, we watched a short video of The Good Samaritan.

This young lad just returned from a great trip south.

We were able to find the Dominican Republic on our class globe.  Our young friend is simply holding the globe at this moment has he fields a few questions from his peers.

A lovely dolphin keychain.

Some coasters and a lovely work of art he made with his sister.

Our resident artist shares here work with her friends at carpet.

What joy it is for me as a teacher to watch our young friends teach each other!
Have a lovely evening everyone!  Mr. Hamer OCT

Day 112

Wednesday evening found some of our Grade Two's in the church next door.

They came to St. Bernard Church to experience their First Reconciliation.

I am proud to say that Father Periera and Father Xavier told the Grade Two teachers that our young Grade Two students were very well prepared for the sacrament.

The little pasture on the altar where they placed their sheep.

Our class early Wednesday morning.

Love the shirt on our young lad who recently returned from the Dominican Republic!

Last minute rehearsal of our songs for Reconciliation.

Later in the day we watched a cartoon video of the story of The Good Samaritan.

Art inspires more art!  Bravo!

Following their visit to the library, these two were happy to discover that they had taken out the same Robert Munsch book.

The boys and girls read some of our class books for Silent Reading.

They are proud to show off some of the titles.

With their many colourful covers.

It is a joy to read the work we have written.

We are a day behind in our blog due to Mr. Hamer being at church Wednesday evening and out at a musical rehearsal Thursday evening.  No worries...we always catch up on the weekend!  Have a great evening everyone!  Mr. Hamer OCT.

Day 113

Thursday saw us close out the calendar on February.
We had discussed the number of days in the months and how once every four years we have a Leap Year...not this year though.

March came in and I snapped this shot on Friday which was the "Tooth of March...Twoth of March...2th of March...oh, yeah...March 2nd!

We are learning to "ace" our zero, one and two times tables.

The students enjoy going up to the Smart Board or even the blackboard to solve equations.

Looking good so far!

"I can do this!"

Yabba Dabba Doo!

In gym the boys and girls selected soccer as the preferred sport to play on this day.

We split into teams.

At the end of the class we combined our groups, boys and girls.

For a five minute "free for all" game.

Too much fun.

Lots of activity.

Lots of engagement.

Day 114

.

Friday morning Mr. Papineau brought his Grade Five class over to our class.

He said "Hello" then "Goodbye".

Then he headed back over to the school where all of the junior teachers were holding an in-service professional development meeting.

While Mr. Hamer took care of both classes.

This method of offering professional development during the actual school day is a very good one.

It fosters leadership in the older children.

And helps build community.

I asked for a goofy shot.

And the Grade Fives responded.

Next week, I will take our class over to Mr. Papineau's for the first block of one of the days.

Then I will join all of the primary teachers for some PD for an hour and 15 minutes.

Our children had fun together.

Here's a goofy shot of us!

And...another.

We then watched the cartoon version of The Good Samaritan.

Even though our class had already watched the cartoon earlier in the week.

They were eager to share it with the older students.

Following the cartoon, it was down to work.

The girls and boys were given a class book page with an opening sentence regarding the story of the Good Samaritan.

Their older peers helped them fill out the rest of the story as this drone shot attests.

We discussed how three people passed the Israelite man who had been beaten and robbed by his fellow Israelites.

A priest and a Levite did not stop to help.

It was a man from Samaria who stopped.

This was key to the story Jesus told.

As the Israelites and Samaritans were a fighting faction...they were not true neighbours.

Israelites were warned from a young age to beware of Samaritans.

The children were surprised to learn that a Samaritan would help an Israelite.

What a touching story.  It reminded me of a World War II true story of a German Fighter Pilot who risked his life to escort a banged up allied plane (flown by a pilot who now resides in Canada) back across enemy lines to safety.  For some unknown reason, the German pilot did not shoot down the injured enemy aircraft and record another "notch in his belt".  Rather, his eyes met the eyes of the Canadian from their respective cockpits where the German suddenly felt tremendous compassion.  Had his German superiors found out about the incident...well we know what would have happened to that German pilot who was a "Good Samaritan".

The visiting students enjoy coming over to our class.

A bit of fun time was had by all.

With some of our larger classmates.

Another aerial shot of the work in progress.

Girls and boys helping each other.

Then it was time for snack.

And a bit more play time.

Two little monkeys.

No...make that three.

When our children are in French class, Mr. Hamer goes to other classes and pulls out children to practise reading.  These three girls in Grade Three enjoyed reading The Frog Prince, judging by their smiles.

A sister act!  Have a great weekend all!
Mr. Hamer, OCT
