Week Twenty-Three Of Floods and Field Trips

Day 106

It has been a crazy couple of days at St. Bernard.  Yesterday, there was a huge lake surrounding the portapack.  This meant that we spent the entire morning in the school.

So-o-o-o...we divided our class into four groups and we sent them to the four different kindergarten classes.  The kinder teachers loved them as they helped with the kindergarten curriculum for the whole morning.

In fact, when we were finally able to return to the portapack, the kindergarten teachers didn't want our students to leave!

Mr. Hamer took turns teaching in the four kinder classes.  We sang and I helped out the other teachers.  It was a fun  morning.

Here are some pics of kinder kids at work and play.
The rest of the portapack classes assembled in the learning commons for the morning.

This little girl has make a nice bridge.

Some tough challenges but we meet them.

This lad is exploring drawing in his special drawing folder.

Lovely job!

"I know my Place Value very well, Mr. Hamer!"

We certainly can see!
Check in tomorrow when I will post our new spelling list as well as many pictures from today's fun Grade Two trip to the Museum of HIstory!  All the best, Mr. Hamer OCT

Day 107

Wednesday found us with the Grade Ones at the Museum of History.

Some eager faces.

Couldn't wait to get going.

Upon arrival in the group entrance area.

One of our workshops involved baking bread so the bread maker came to visit us.

Then it was up to the Children's Museum area.

Washing hands first.

Then getting into our groups.

With our baker's hats.

And friendly parent volunteers.

Some artificial examples of different bread types.

Then we got down to the task at hand.

Measuring our ingredients accurately.

With the assistance of our great parent helpers.

Baker Yannick keeps a keen eye on things.
Some of our parents are bakers themselves and own their own bakery.

Yes, this ingredient does smell...doesn't it!

But it is a necessary ingredient.

Still more ingredients.

And a study of wheat.

Measuring the flour.

At just the right amount.

Mustn't forget the salt.

Now for stirring.

And more stirring.

Then some kneading.

And more kneading!

Next step...into the oven.

Ooh, hopefully it will turn out!

Then out of the oven.

Our baker dad who owns his own bakery.

Lots of fun all around the kitchen.

Studying the different types of bread.

Letting it rise!

Our other baker.

A lovely pair.

Father and daughter.

Later, we went to another location in the Children's Museum.

Where we saw so much.

Where we were party to yet another workshop on music...but that's for tomorrow!
Have a great evening!  Mr. Hamer OCT

Day 108

Day 108 found us back at school after a great field trip.
I will share the remaining pics from the trip on this day.

You will recall our baking workshop where the boys and girls were able to bake bread and taste the finished product.

Then it was on to our music workshop.

The children were given "taps" to put on their feet.  The taps were a single penny attached to some fabric elastic bands.

Then we tap danced.

The scene back stage.

We went into the children's village.

Where each pupil was provided with a djembe drum.

Our guide led the way.

We followed.

With enthusiasm.

Concentration.

Attentiveness.

A great rehearsal.

We then became the audience for the other half of the gang.

Where they put on a concert for us.

Using a variety of percussion instruments.

Backstage.

Then it was our turn to perform.

We followed our leader.

She told a fascinating story of some animals.

While we provided the background sound!

Lunch time!

Then a free tour of the Children's Museum.

Love the vehicles.

Walking around the village.

"Hi Mr. Hamer!"

Egypt.

The freighter.

Is in port.

Various modes of transportation.

The market place.

Say, where are your helmets?  Hehehe!
Hey...check out who is working in the diner!

Day 109

Day 109 found some freezing rain in the forecast.  This meant the buses throughout the region would not be running.  Yes, another "snow day" as we affectionately call it.

This birthday boy...

...apparently shares a birthday with Buster Bear!  Happy Birthday to you both!

A talented girl.

Loves to share her artwork.

Some of these pics are from the day before.  We gathered all of the grade two students together in Ms. Eaton's class once again.

Where we practised our songs for Reconciliation.

The children standing are those who will be receiving the sacrament.

Back in class it was down to work.

On some Olympic actitivities.

"I like sitting at the front of the class, Mr. Hamer!"

Sharing of resources.

Working with friends.

In groups.

Lots of great conversation.

Another class book which we brainstormed.

As a class, we came up with four alternatives for our each sentence.

They were printed on the Smart Board and the students were able to select which phrase they preferred each time.

A look out at the playground before school on Friday.

Yup, the freezing rain would appear sometime in the day!
Have a great rest of your weekend everyone!  Mr. Hamer OCT
