It's January - Happy New Year - Plus December in Review

Happy New Year to all our St. Bernard families!

Before we officially welcome January, let's take a look back on our December activities.

With only three weeks of school in December, one would imagine this posting to be a short one.

With so many exciting happenings in this celebratory month, I imagine this will be a longer posting.

On the first Monday in December we began decorating our class Christmas tree as we awaited the birth of the baby Jesus.

Every child was given the opportunity to place a few ornaments on the tree.

As they brought the tree to life!

An enjoyable experience that was, for sure!

We continued with our kindergarten visits.

Where our students sang along with their little friends in JK and SK.

Remember the bells?  This was the first day of rehearsals with them and the children caught on rather quickly in this initial practice.

Thankfully, they are colour coded.

We learned many new things in math.

Including how to subtract two-digit numbers.

This was our first day learning subtraction in the class.

I'm sure you all recall the fun Christmas Carol sheet offered as homework!

So far this year, we are up to the letter "J" with our printing practice.

Coming along, for sure.

We lit one Advent Candle in the first week of waiting.

Mrs. Hamer brought in a new banner in December so that Mr. Hamer and the students could enjoy the anticipation of checking out their stockings on Christmas morning!

The students had fun brainstorming and writing a creative "Modern Nativity" story.

Lots of smiles when the stories were read aloud in class!

I remember the day that my camera had a different colour setting without me knowing about it until I got home that night to create the blog entry!

Some day we enjoyed indoor recesses.

We even had a "Pyjama Day" where many of the children dressed in their PJ's.

Sitting with a friend for a photograph sure can be fun...!

In early December we completed a class book on all of the activities we did the month before.

Seat neighbours.

"Hi everyone!"

Cuddles.

Snack time.

Our Nativity stories on the Creation board.

I'm proud of mine!

Making crafts is fun.

This one was an easy one.  You'll see more of them later on.

As for another craft, we enlisted the assistance of this pretty lady, one of our classroom volunteers.

A family portrait!

A little gift from a lovely little girl.

For our Christmas tree.

As for that more challenging craft, here's a look at a completed one.

Yet another happy student!

What a collection of colour they make when placed all together.

It's amazing what Christmas cards can do!

One of our "Spirit Days" was Crazy Hat Day!

And this little girl played along magnificently!

Our junior buddies came by to visit in December.

We sang some Christmas songs.

And coloured a stained glass picture of a candle.

We went to the French play in the Learning Commons.

Where different classes went about their performances.

A quick check around the hallways of the big school.

Reveals some lovely artwork.

Fall turns to winter.

As the leaves float down from the trees.

A lovely bulletin board, for sure.

Cool skates.

An Advent calendar of kindness.

A loveoly three-dimensional form of the Advent candles.

Sounds like a fun story!

Chrome book fun!

Stained glass magic.

Working with buddies.

Mr. Hamer received a lovely snow globe!
I love it!

In rehearsal.

For the Grade Two Christmas performance.

Along with the play.

On the day of the show, many families made it out!

But the children didn't seem nervous at all.

They performed like little pros.

Check out my Nutcracker!

 A little elf.

How about my Nutcracker?

Our white board at carpet sees some creative action.

More inclement weather where the temperatures dipped well into the negatives meant...

You got it...indoor recess again!

Where we either play with toys.

Or chrome books.

Too much fun!

This time, the kinders visited our class to entertain us.

With some lovely Christmas songs!

Check out my Nutcracker.

How about mine?

Little elves.

In candy cane colours.

Creative play.

Builds the mind.

With all kinds of toys.

I'm proud of my creation!

Yes, those Nutcrackers sure do look cool lined up like that!

Our choir sang beautifully at our December Advent mass.

We created a second tree.

This time on the door.

More Christmas tree activities.

Including a stained glass one.

I love mine.

So do I.

Me too!

Do you?
Yes we do!

A day to remember!

Christmas Craft Day.

Brought out the kid.

In all the grown-ups.

One of Santa's real elves paid the class a visit!
(Hey...I thought elves were supposed to be short?)

We were blessed to have been paid a visit by the Ottawa Bach Choir.
Their performance was fabulous!

More of our Christmas tree art with big snowflakes around.

School is cool.

Little gifts from some friends.

Brought more joy and cheer to the class.

Are these Mr. Hamer's nails?

Nope...but they are sure pretty!

Getting outdoors with our buddies for sliding was a blast.

Well...it was a winter blast...of cold air!

But we had fun nonetheless.

Yabba dabba doo!

The Snowflake Sale was a huge success.

Raising over two thousand dollars for the Me to We Foundation.

Lots in attendance.

With lots of smiles.

On the last day of school, Mr. Hamer, Mr. Papineau and a friend, Al, led the student body in a Christmas Sing-Along.

Where we wished Mrs. Hennessy a Happy retirement!

Here's to a new month.
Happy New Year everyone!  Mr Hamer OCT
