The students were introduced...

To a new pupil...

Who has enrolled in the class...

He's not too sure...

If he's a grade one child...

Or a grade two student...

One thing is for sure...

He likes to monkey around...

When the teacher's not looking...

So Mr. Hamer has asked...

The students in his class...

To help keep an eye...

On him...

When Mr. Hamer is busy working...

With a group of students...

Indeed...

The children....

Enjoy having him in the class.
Check in tomorrow to find out his name!

Some of us were able to take home some of our pre-holiday art.

Agenda time!

Means it's back to school time.

And...back to work time.

Yessirree, time to buckle down.

Our fellow student leads us with calendar at carpet.

With so many cheery-eyed friends.

"Who can tell me today's date?"

"That's right...it is Monday, January the 8th!"

Lots of friends offer up responses.

Check out our new banner.

Some cool items arrived class this morning including this dino skeleton.

And this amazing drawing.

As well as these fun finger toys.

Today we read the story, Harry the Dirty Dog.
Ask your child to tell you the story when they get home from school tomorrow.

More calendar scenes.

Yes, it was cloudy and cool.  We certainly could have put "snowy" and "cold" as well.

Friends help friends tuck in their mitts!

We studied 2D shapes today, but this little friend offered to turn a 2D drawing into a 3D one!
Have a great evening!  Mr. Hamer OCT

Day 78

We are into our second day of school in the frosty month, although temperatures managed to regulate themselves.

One of our friends with a wounded foot.  We're thinking of you, buddy!

Yup, today is the 78th day of school for this year!  We forgot to put the 77th day up which our friend is doing now.

Thanks to those parents and guardians who have brought in Christmas cards already.
It is greatly appreciated.

We continued our work on shapes today.

With an easy and fun worksheet.

We learned about squares...

Triangles...

Rectangles...

And circles.

"My earmuffs are like circles, Mr. Hamer!"

Some proud students.

Love to showcase their work.
Later we learned that pentagons have five sides and fives angles.
We also learned that hexagon have six edges and six vertices.

"I've finished my homework for the week, Mr. Hamer."

"Me too!"

"Me three!"

This little one led calendar on this day.

She asked some pretty challenging questions.

The day before, we worked in teams.

On our shapes.

We also worked at our desks.

We like to catch up on unfinished work.

We love Monty, the monkey!

Math involving decoding demands concentration.

Lots of focus, for sure.

Agenda time.

Hard workers.

Monty looks on!

A photo from throughout the day.
Have a relaxing evening!  Mr. Hamer OCT

Day 79

Day three of our first day back at school found warmer temperatures in the region.

We combined math with art this morning.

The students selected a particular plastic shape.

That they would use as a tracer.

They would trace their shape numerous times on their paper.

With allowance for overlapping.

Then the children outlined the shape using a marker.

They would later colour the interior of their shapes.

Using wax crayons.

The single caveat being that whichever shape they chose, they had to use that shape only.

Two sizes were offered.

Hexagons.

Circles.

With smiles.

And friendship.

Triangles.

And...rectangles.
(Squares as well.)

We also visited the learning commons.

And sat in "the pit".

Where Mr. Hamer read a story.

Hi Ms. Avila!

Ms. Avila explained how we are to treat the new furniture.

Then it was on to book selection.

Searching for books is so much fun!

Lying on the new bean bag furniture is cool.

Three little munchkins.

Shared reading.

In tandem.

Companions.

Cool seating!

"I like this book!"

Two on task.

"I like this story."

This is comfy!

Collaboration.

Lots more Lego!
Check in tomorrow where you will see our finished geometry art as well as some new educational play toys for the class.

Day 80

Hip-Hip, Hooray!

Due to the bus cancellations, there were only a handful of students in each class on this day.

Teachers chose to gather each grade into one larger group.  Here we see my good friend, Mr. Nihmey, leading the group in gym class in Block One.

Block Two found the children in Mrs. Eaton's room.

Mrs. Eaton was away at a convention on this day so Ms. Morasco taught the children.

During Block Three, Mme Pepe taught French.

With Mrs. Johnson assisting.

Again in Mrs. Eaton's room.

We kept Mr. Hamer's Grade Ones with us.

That meant we were teaching a group of 32 students.
We're now in Mr. Hamer's room for Block Four.

Mr. Hamer used to teach classes of over 30 pupils on an annual basis just a few years ago before the McGuinty plan of caps in primary grades took effect.

Mrs. Johnson is enjoying the lesson!

Here's the good-looking guy reading the group a fun story!

Then into groups.

For a Hidden Picture activity.

With friends.

Many visitors.

From other classes.

Working together.

With some help.

Smiles.

And more smiles.

All around the room.

Sharing creativity.

Hey, I see Monty the monkey off in the distance.

Hooray for snow days!

Day 81

Indeed, freezing rain was the order of the day nearer to home time.

But in the warmth of the class, the children were busy.

Finishing up...

Their geometric art.

Lots of 2D shape choices.

Loads of colour.

Interesting designs.

Some portrait juxtaposition..

Most landscape.

Lots of fun.

And tons of learning.

A lot of indoor recesses.

On both of the past two days.

Saw some of the new toys.

See a lot of action.

With Wedgits being...

A big attraction.

Love the little doggie shape.

It looks messy.

But it's an organized mess!

A proud boy.

And...another proud boy.

With cool looking glasses.

Mrs. Hamer brought the Wedgits in.

For Mr. Hamer's students.

They are a great educational toy.

The pupils just love when it's indoor recess.

Some more Wedgit action.

With friends sharing.

Quite the mountainous creation!

Two proud peers.

Love working together.

Some catch-up time.

Some computer time.

Still more creations.

Abound.

What a magical toy!

We'll have to thank Mrs. Hamer for the gift.

Still more creativity!

All over the place!

With total concentration.

A three-way team.

A great individual effort.

Colourful friends.

The joy never ends!

I love this.

And I love this.

Still more creativity.

With loads of blocks.

Looks like a Star Wars ship.

Well done!

Concentration.

Success!

Yes!

Ooh!

Ahh!

Check this out, Mr. Hamer.

So cool!

Don't forget, moms and dads...the deadline for our Scholastic Book Orders is this coming Tuesday.

Our class at the end of the day!
Have a great weekend everyone!  Mr. Hamer OCT
